I love it when I re-visit an old unfinished song, especially one that I seemed to have so much trouble with lyrically, and everything finally clicks into place. This happened to me today. I started writing some lyrics to a melody that I had a few months back, but nothing seemed to sit right. I wrote this song as celebration of the wonder that is the cross of Jesus Christ. He has done for us the unthinkable, unimaginable, and the impossible. He is our hope.
The Wonder of the Cross
You came to us to free us from a debt we couldn't pay
When we were without hope, dead men in chains
You reached and pulled us from our graves
By grace You saved and we're singing
The war is won, all the horror is undone
The wonder of the cross has turned the sinners into sons
This grace You gave is more than strong enough to save
The wonder of the cross, is Jesus Christ who we proclaim!
You bore all the weight, all the pain, even the grave and then you rose
The only way, the only truth, the only life
oh love divine, oh love divine and we're singing
oh love divine, oh love divine and we're singing
The war is won, all the horror is undone
The wonder of the cross has turned the sinners into sons
This grace You gave is more than strong enough to save
The wonder of the cross, is Jesus Christ who we proclaim!
We're in awe and we're in wonder
We're amazed by Your great love
By Your stripes we're sons and daughters
Brought to life by the power of Your blood
The war is won, all the horror is undone
The wonder of the cross has turned the sinners into sons
This grace You gave is more than strong enough to save
The wonder of the cross, is Jesus Christ who we proclaim!
